The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India enacted the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. The Ministry has also prepared “The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules,2020” for effective implementation of the provisions of the Act. The same has been notified in the Gazette of India on 29.09.2020. The Ministry launched a one-stop portal for transgender persons to avail welfare measures such as scholarships, skill development & employment, composite medical health insurance, Transgender identity certificate & identity card, and also submit grievances etc. Every applicant upon registering with the portal will be provided with a unique registration number & other login credentials to follow the consequent steps needed to avail the schemes.
In this regard, the nodal department for the welfare of transgender persons is the Department for Welfare of Disabled & Senior Citizens in the state and as per the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020. Accordingly, at present, the nomenclature has been changed as Dept for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior citizens & Transgender persons.
