The Department for Welfare of Disabled was established in 1983 after the demerger from the Social Welfare Department. In the year 2002, Government established Senior Citizens Wing and attached the subject to Disabled Welfare Department and nominated the Commissioner, Disabled Welfare as State Level Nodal Officer for implementation of National Policy of Older persons in the State.
Government with commitment to empower Transgender Persons in the State, newly established the Transgender Persons Wing and attached the subject to this Department in the year 2022.
